Maine Children Photography

She is rambunctious, sweet, determined, and two and three quarters years old. The other day I was fortunate to photograph this adorable little girl. She was not shy for the camera and was immediately eager to flash me her baby teeth… that was until she saw a swing set! As soon as she laid her eyes on a few swings and some monkey bars, her mind was set on playing, but who could blame her swing sets are FUN! I didn’t let that deter my photography instinct and I followed her up and down and all around and was able to capture some adorable shots of an (almost) three year old, being well… an almost three year old. All babies *ah hem* big girls should be this happy!

It must be exhausting being this adorable!

Derek & Diana - {Engagement}

I begin this post by asking the question; Do you know cows have more than one stomach? I bet you didn’t and neither did I until this morning. This morning I photographed an adorable couple who will be tying the knot in just a few weeks on 10/10/10 - I wish I would have been creative enough to schedule my wedding on a cool date. Although we got married in 06; 06/06/06 prooobably not the best wedding date!

I digress, we began the shoot in one location and while snapping away, I learned they had a pet cow, yes a cow and they call this cow George. Once I heard this I knew we had to find this George and incorporate him into some photos. And we did! George is a calf and lives among BIG cows who leave BIG patties everywhere (we all know what I am typing about right?!?). Someone asked why these patties were so LARGE and at that time is when I learned cows have multiple stomachs, if you want more information on this fun fact, click here.

Enough about stomachs, let’s get to the pictures. Here are some of my favorite shots from our time together, thank you so much for opportunity to photograph you two and best of luck, wishes, and kisses on your upcoming wedding day.

Work it!!

I present to you George, the pet cow

Homework - Complete!

A few days ago I sent out an ICMAD (pronounced 'ekk-mad' and yes I just made that word up), also known as “I Can’t Make A Decision” to my bloggidiers. I needed help in deciding which image to submit to the Go{4}Pro Photography Homework Assignment. I couldn’t decide between seven images, so I put it out to my readers and asked for help and booooy did I get some! WOW!! I received 33 comments on my blog, set a new record for blog visits in one day, I also received a dozen e-mails and some verbal votes as well!!

Well, the votes have been tallied and my homework has been passed in.

Drum Roll Plllllease - WINNER Meatloaf Dinner goes to #3!!

I was tickled pink to see this image win as it is a true representation of expression. These two did NOT want their photograph taken and I think that is pretty clear given the expression on their faces and body language :-D

Photo #1 was a close second followed by #5, #4, #6, #2, and #7.

Thanks again to everyone who voted!!

Maine Children Photography

A few weeks ago I scheduled a vacation day from my ‘real job’ and spent the day photographing children at my daughter’s daycare. I photographed 33 kids in 6 hours and took over 2,000 pictures- PHEW!! Sounds like a lot of work, and it was, but I had SO MUCH fun doing that I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The kids were wonderful and the weather, although a little rebellious in the morning, ended up cooperating the rest of the day.

A HUGE THANK YOU to Donna for letting me come to the daycare and to all the parents who let me photograph their beautiful children. If each parent received just one picture that made their heart smile, then I did my job and did it well. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

I Have Homework...

I am in a pickle people and I need your help!!

Look over to the right, see the section titled “Blogs I Love”, now look at the second one down titled GO{4}PRO Photography! It says that I love this blog but I think it is a little more than that, I stalk this blog, I check up on it everyday, read every post with bated breath, wait, that sounds a little creepy... In all seriousness, I have found this blog to be a wonderful resource to myself has a photographer who is in the process of turning her hobby into a career and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in photography or if you love reading a good blog.

Leah, the author of Go{4}Pro, has dished out a “Homework Assignment”. The assignment is to submit one (1) photograph that captures an expression. If you have seen some of my work, I think you can tell that I am not the ‘cookie cutter’ ‘say cheeeeeze' type of photographer. I am a true believer in capturing an expression, a moment, a slice of time that tells a story without any words.

Let’s get down to the nit and gritty of the pickle I am in. I want to complete this “Homework Assignment”, but I have NEVER submitted my work to anything like this before. I have to admit I am little nervous and apprehensive and have gone through some photos, but cannot make a decision to save my life.

Here is where I need YOU! I have spent the good part of the day thinking of photos that capture an expression and I have posted some of these below. I trust your judgements and am asking YOU to vote on the image YOU think I should submit.  Leave me a comment with the image number and the photograph with the most votes at 4p Sunday (8/22) will be submitted to the Go{4}Pro Homework Assignment.

Happy looking and most of all THANK YOU!

Maine Family Photography

My Sunday mornings are usually spent sipping coffee and hanging laundry, but not this morning. This morning I met up with on of my oldest friends (not age oldest!) and her beautiful little family. I have photographed them before and each time they are a pleasure to work with and the kids just crack me up!

Before we took off to our shooting destination we had to decide on a shooting destination. There is this old abandoned mill in the next town over I have been dying to shoot at, but someone thought we may get kicked out, and in hind sight they were probably right. So instead we took a jont down the road and through the woods to grandma's house, haha, no not really. Danny knew of this amazing little spot, literally, in the middle of the woods. Come to find out back in the 1800's this used to be an old lumber mill. The rock work was amazing and the lighting was a dream.

So I got to shoot at an old abandoned mill, just not the one I had my heart set on, but I am glad they talked me out of it or else I would not have been able to capture these amazing shots!

I think this is my favorite of the day!

Happy Sunday!

Hugs & Shurgs

HUGS: 1) the new McDonald's Frappes; if you haven’t had one yet, What are you waiting for? Try the mocha first, then go back the next day and try the caramel, you will not be disappointed. 2) Camping; you are the perfect excuse for me to eat like a 15 year old boy and drink ice cold beer at 10a. 3) Old(er) people who finally splurge on THEMSELVES. I saw an old lady the other day driving a shiny convertible, top down, with a smile a mile wide! I wanted to scream out my moon roof’ “You Go Girl!”

SHRUGS: 1) Humidity; you make it impossible to dry clothes on the line and make it unbearable to live in my house without A/C, please e-mail me your address so I can send you my power bill which doubled last month. 2) Camping, you are cold, dirty, and malicious; I know it was you who coerced that squirrel to run beside my tent all night, the sound of which I convinced myself was a BEAR, thanks for the sleepless night(s). 3) Waitresses who are not shiny, happy people, you can make the best steak taste like crap!

This was the view from our campsite, not too shabby...

And Two Become One - The Goforth's

On July 24th I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Ashley & Trevor. I have known Ashley since she was in 8th grade and over the years I have watched this shy young girl blossom into a strong, hard working, nurturing, independent, and beautiful women. A few years ago, I heard Ashley had met a boy and everyone called this boy Trevor. I never met Trevor until a year or so ago and I knew from the first time I saw the two of them together they were meant to be. The way Trevor looks at Ashley when she is talking or taking care of their beautiful daughter Bailey, THAT look is unmistakable, you know it when you see it and it gives girls like me the goosebumps; that look can't be described any better than in two words, 1) In 2) Love. Ahhhh

When Ashley & Trevor asked me to photograph their wedding I was ecstatic from "Would you be interested...". I knew this wedding would be gorgeous, I mean with a couple this how can it be anything BUT! I knew the location and each and every last detail would be breath taking, and I was right.

Congratulations Ashley & Trevor and thanks again for letting me capture the (second) best day of your life!
